Felix Lawson

Alumnus Felix Lawson has devoted his life to public service and has been an unwavering advocate in the public health arena. From his humble beginnings in Moss Point, Mississippi, to his influential roles in national and regional organizations, he has always been guided by his foundational learning experience at Tougaloo College.

Felix Lawson belief in public service as a path for transforming individual lives has guided his journey for over two decades. Félix’s academic background reflects his commitment to the field of public service. After graduating from Moss Point High School and earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Tougaloo College in 1994, he completed a master’s in public policy and administration from Troy University and is currently a Juris Doctorate Candidate at Purdue University Law School.

Felix has co-authored publications with the American College of Preventive Medicine, National Association of City and County Health Organizations, and National Institute of Health.

In 2023, The National Association of City and County Health Organizations appointed him to the National Preparedness Policy Advisory Board. This initiative aligns with federal partner programs such as the CDC’s Public Health Emergency Preparedness Capabilities, ASPR’s Hospital Preparedness Program, and the National Health Security Strategy.

In 2024, Felix assumed a role on the Region 4 Coordinating Committee (representing 9 States) through an appointment by the University of North Carolina Institute of Public Health. In this capacity, he is involved in implementing strategies for the Regional Public Health Preparedness Center, where he collaborates with various public health agencies, healthcare facilities, academic institutions, and partners.

Felix is a 10-year veteran of the United States Army, member of the Historical Ebenezer Baptist Church, DeKalb County NAACP, State of Georgia Democratic Party, Troy University National Alumni Association and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. He is also a life member of the Tougaloo College National Alumni Association, and the immediate Past President of the Atlanta Tougaloo Alumni Association.

Felix embodies the spirit of innovation and forward-thinking leadership. His visionary approach will have a huge impact on the estimated 6,500 + alumni that have walked the hallowed and sacred grounds of Tougaloo College. His servant leader approach will inspire alumni from every decade to volunteer their time, talent, and treasure. Felix is inspired by Luke 12:48: To whom much is given, much will be required. He understands the Eagle Queens legacy is woven with the threads of accomplishments, resilience, and unwavering commitment. Under his leadership, TCNAA will continue to uphold the spirit of excellence, fostering connections across generations.

He is an ardent advocate for alumni empowerment and will serve as the bridge between our eagle queen alumni community, board of trustees and the college. He embodies the spirit of the college through his unwavering passion and commitment. His leadership is anchored in five powerful pillars: Communication, Connection, Presence, Advocacy, and Giving Back.

As the next President of the Tougaloo College National Alumni Association (TCNAA), he is committed to translating these values into action through collaboration with campus partners, the Office of Alumni Affairs, and the alumni body at large.
