Alumni Representative to the Board of Trustees (2020 – 2023)

Dr. Brigetta Kay Turner, Class of 1982, with a B.S. in Biology was elected Tougaloo College National Alumni Association Alumna of the year in 2019. She was recently inducted into the 2020 UNCF Hall of Honors as an Outstanding Alumnus. Brigetta is a TCNAA Life Member and is presently the Secretary of TCNAA. She was inducted into the TCNAA Hall of Fame in 2008 and has served as the Chair of the Committee for three (3) years ensuring a profit during each alumni weekend. She is currently the Chaplain of the Jackson Tougaloo Alumni Chapter and serves on the recruitment and special projects committees. In addition, as a campus minister, she assists the College Chaplain at two Sunday Services.

Dr. Turner graduated with her Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. She has been in private practice in Jackson, Mississippi for over 30 years and currently practices dentistry at the George and Ruth Owens Health and Wellness Center on the campus of Tougaloo College. Dr. Turner is the Grassroots Representative for the DentaQuest Foundation forming partnerships with the Mississippi State Legislature and U. S. Congress to improve Oral Health Care equity, access, and Medicaid/Medicare expansion. She is past president of the Mississippi Dental Society.

Dr. Turner is the recipient of the Leon T. Britton Award for Excellence in Dentistry and the Mississippi Dental Society’s Presidential Award.

Dr. Turner serves the Lord with gladness as the pianist at her home church of Mount Nebo M.B. Church in Jackson. She was initiated into the Gamma Psi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and is a member of the Jackson (MS) Alumnae Chapter.
