Letter from the TCNAA Representatives to the College Board of Trustees

      Tougaloo, Eagle Queen, we love thee;
Mother Eagle, Stir thy nest;
Rout thine eaglets to the breezes;
They enjoy the test.

Dear Fellow Tougaloo College Alumni:

We are honored to have been recently elected—and are humbled to have the opportunity to serve—as the Tougaloo College National Alumni Association (TCNAA) Alumni Representatives to the Tougaloo College Board of Trustees. Our official responsibilities are outlined below:

Serve on the TCNAA Board of Directors and Tougaloo College Board of Trustees;
Meet prior to the Tougaloo College Board of Trustees meetings to coordinate ideas and interests on behalf of TCNAA;
Present items of interest and concerns of the TCNAA to the Trustee Board; and
Provide written reports to, and communicate frequently with, the TCNAA Executive Committee, Board of Directors, and general body following Trustee Board meetings.

As new Alumni Representatives, our roles on the Board of Trustees will be defined by committee assignments; however, the following are several priorities and areas of interest to which we look forward to lending our support:
Global Alumni Giving: Increase the number and percentage of alumni who make donations to Tougaloo College.
Young Alumni Giving: Encourage young alumni to donate annually, or more frequently, to the College.
Young Alumni Participation: Increase young alumni participation in TCNAA leadership positions.
Recruiting and Retention: Actively participate in undergraduate recruiting and enrollment management.
Tougaloo Pride: Continue to raise awareness about Tougaloo College and spread Tougaloo pride to all!
These initiatives are not by any means novel, as they are the underpinnings of TCNAA’s core purpose and mission. Many of these initiatives have also been highlighted in TCNAA President David Miller’s priorities, and we stand ready to help TCNAA and Tougaloo College achieve their shared mission. And equally important, we are here to serve YOU, our dynamic Tougaloo College alumni.

Again, we look forward to the privilege of serving as your Alumni Representatives, and we are grateful for your continued support and involvement on behalf of our beloved Eagle Queen, Tougaloo College!

Sincerely,

Shirlethia Franklin (’04) and Elane Coleman (‘70)
