Dear Fellow Alumni:
We are pleased to be a part of the 2009 Spring/Summer edition of the TAB and extend our warmest greetings to you. This has been a remark able year thus far for the College. But just as our nation is undergoing change and adjusting to the impact of the economy, so is Tougaloo College. The words of Charles Dickens ring true in today’s environment, “. . . these are the best of times and the worst of times . . .” Our campus is undergoing a major physical transformation with the construction of the Bennie G. Thompson Academic Center, the historic restoration of the Mansion and the renovation
of Warren Hall. Our students are excelling and receiving recognition for their
academic achievements. Enrollment showed increases for the fall 2008 and spring
2009 semesters.

Fundraising
is comparable to where we were this time last year.
These are challenging economic times for everyone. We realize that some of our supporters, including alumni, might be experiencing personal challenging times. We want you to know how much we appreciate your support and value our association.
We encourage you, especially alumni, to continue to support the College even if you are unable to contribute at previous levels. Also you can assist us in recruiting students. If each of us would commit to recruit one student, we would have a long waiting list. This is important for our stability and survival. We ask you to accept the challenge with us.
Like America, Tougaloo College is a
resilient community. We are familiar with economic hardships and

have tremendous experience
navigating troubled waters. While these are indeed uncertain economic times, we are realistically optimistic about the future. We will continue to apply the skills of our better selves, be innovative in attracting more students and helping them find ways to finance their education, strategically manage our resources, tighten our belts, increase fundraising, reduce expenses, make small personal sacrifices to benefit the greater good of this community and continue to have faith that God smiles on Tougaloo.
We thank you for your support of your alma mater. Together, we can continue to make great things hap- pen for Tougaloo!
