I hope that 2009 has been good to you so far, but for many these have been timorous times. Even in times like these we must be about the business of promoting Tougaloo College National Alumni Association and Tougaloo College. This is why it is so important to have objectives and measurable task to accomplish those objectives. We have all had distractions but must become more focused on securing Tougaloo’s legacy by performing the task we have been assigned. If you have not been assign a task but you are not a member of TCNAA, a local chapter, or the Bulldog Booster Club you need to get focused. If you have not participated in Tougaloo’s Annual Fund (1869 Fund), the Galloway Project, and/or a TCNAA or chapter sponsored event, you need to get focused.

In the past, I have emphasized the importance of participating in the Annual Fund and recruiting students for Tougaloo. This year is no different. The recruitment this fiscal year has gone well, with the college having an increase in enrollment over last year, for both the fall and spring semesters.

Contrastly the 1869 Annual Fund goal has proven to be a challenge. We are confronted with making the Annual

Fund goal by the June 30th 2009 fiscal year end. Collecting only 1 million dollars as of 02/28/2009, we need an additional 2.9 million dollars to end the fiscal year in the BLACK. If you have not donated to the fund, please do so, if you have donated and you can use more deductions for 2009, Tougaloo will be a worthwhile recipient.

There are a number of projects being planned that will allow alumni, chapters and families of alumni and friends to participate. There will be more information coming out before commencement but if you have not heard of something before that time contact the Alumni Affairs office for an update. Four projects under consideration are:

  • Century Club – This is a club being initiated by Richard House out of Dallas. Alumni and friend can donate a deductible $100 to the club, which will choose a project or need on Tougaloo’s campus to undertake.
  • The building or renovation of the Alumni House. This project will have more momentum during the year.
  • Galloway Hall – Alumni and chapters have participated in the adopt-a-room project for the renovation of Galloway Hall. The donors will be given signage in Galloway Hall. More rooms are available to be adopted, contact Alumni Affairs Office or me, if interested.
  • Tougaloo Endowment Trust – TET is being launched in partnership with Bank-Plus, where alumni and friends can participate by supporting Tougaloo through monthly direct bank account or credit card payments. Contact the Office of Institutional Advancement for more information.

Be Blessed,
